KUMAAT Preparation Guide

The Kathmandu University Undergraduate Management Admission Test (KUUMAT) is an entrance examination taken by Kathmandu University to enroll students in undergraduate programs.

The undergraduate programs offered by Kathmandu University are: 

• Bachelor of Business Administration(BBA) 
• Bachelor of Business Information Systems(BBIS) 
• BBA Hons/Emphasis 
• Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management(BHTM)

If you are a recent high school graduate aspiring to get admitted into any of these courses offered by Kathmandu University, you must pass the KUUMAT.

How to know you’re eligible to take KUUMAT

Students wanting to take the KUMAAT must meet certain criteria:

• Minimum cumulative percentage of 50% or minimum 2.0 CGPA in +2 or equivalent education

Understanding the structure of KUUMAT

KUUMAT is designed to assess the candidates on two domains: Quantitative Evaluation and Verbal Evaluation.

It is based on the General Scholastic Assessment Test(SAT), and SAT Mathematics Test.

General SAT 

The General SAT portion is concerned with verbal ability.

The verbal ability test measures the candidate’s ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret the given material and their basic knowledge of incorrect and ineffective language use. 

SAT Mathematics Test

This portion is modeled on the SATs and evaluates the candidate’s ability to evaluate situations, actions, and experimentation when presented along with data and various mathematical problems. 

It covers topics such as Arithmetic (fractions, percentages, ratios, averages), Algebra (equations, inequalities, polynomials, word problems), Geometry ( coordinate geometry, circles, etc), data interpretation, counting, functions, and logical reasoning.

The test carries a total of 100 marks that can be broken down into four sections:

The total time allocated for the exam is 100 minutes. Unlike CMAT, KUUMAT does have a negative marking scheme where 0.25 marks are deducted for each incorrect answer.

Preparing for the Examination

Although the preparation for any entrance examination is accompanied by the pressure to do well, here are some tips to help you:

1. Start with the materials 

The first step to preparing for an exam is gathering the right materials. 

KUUMAT preparation books that are available in the market help you navigate the study materials, are provided with helpful tips and tricks, and include practice questions.

These help you understand things better and not feel as lost. 

2. Join preparation classes 

If you feel you need guidance to pass the exam, there are study centers that guide you through the journey. 

Joining such institutions can be fruitful.

3.  Make a study plan

Create a study plan that works for you and stick to it. 

Following a proper study schedule helps you be better prepared for the exams, makes you disciplined, and prevents being stressed and feeling hopeless when nearing the exam. 

4. Track your progress 

Keep track of how much material you’ve covered. 

It helps you plan better and be more conscious and strategic of your approach moving forward.

5. Revise what you’ve studied 

There is nothing as discouraging as reaching a certain point and realizing you’ve forgotten what you had studied before. 

Be sure to revise the topics you’ve studied from time to time. 

It not only helps you retain information better but also helps you gain a clearer and in-depth understanding of the topics with each revision.

6. Know your weakness 

Know what topics you struggle the most with and what you’re good at.

7. Practice Past questions and mock tests

Try to imitate the exam settings by attempting past papers in the allocated time frame. 

Later, check the answers and hold yourself accountable. 

You’ll have a better overview of your progress and learn to manage your time during the exam.

8. Let yourself rest 

It is just as important to let yourself rest and relax. 

Breaks are important to help you focus better and avoid burnout. 

9. Seek help from peers 

Do not hesitate to ask for help from your peers. 

Sometimes they’re able to look at things from a different perspective that you might have missed, and provide tips and tricks that can not be found in books. 

Also, teaching what you know to others helps you remember them better and understand them even further.

How to register for KUUMAT

You can obtain the KUUMAT registration form by visiting Kathmandu University School of Management(KUSOM) or downloading it from Kathmandu University’s official website.

After filling out the form, it has to be submitted to KUSOM. 

The application form costs Rs. 500 if the form was taken from KUSOM and Rs. 800 if the form was downloaded online.

The admit card for the exam can be collected from KUSOM after the submission of the form.

The exam centers are announced, and the candidates have to be present at their respective exam centers.

If you pass the KUUMAT, you are eligible to be admitted to Kathmandu University School of Management and other colleges affiliated to it. 

You also may be awarded scholarships and other benefits based off your score and marks obtained in +2.

CMAT v/s KUUMAT

While both CMAT and KUUMAT open up opportunities for your undergraduate studies in the management discipline, KUUMAT is comparatively more competitive due to the limited number of seats and few number of KU-affiliated colleges. 

The negative marking scheme of KUMAAT makes it harder in comparison to CMAT.

Additionally, taking the CMAT, provides you with more options in terms of which colleges you want to study in and what course you want to take.
