BA/BSW (Bachelor’s in Arts in Social Work)

KMC offers a four-year BA/BASW program affiliated with the Tribhuvan University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FOHSS). It is a hybrid course that enables students to take classes in English literature, rural development, sociology, mass communication, journalism, psychology, economics, and more.

Admission Criteria
  • Students seeking admission in Social Work must have secured at least D+ in all subjects in Grade 11 and Grade 12.
    OR
  • Passed + 2 or Intermediate or PCL from TU or from any other institution recognized by TU with a minimum of 45% marks.
  • Only those students who have passed the interview will be eligible for an admission

What is the BASW course?

BASW, or Bachelor of Arts in Social Work, is a four-year course facilitated under the direction of Tribhuvan University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Students will receive rigorous training in report and proposal writing, persuasive communication, lobbying and advocacy, social action, community organising, and social leadership as part of the course’s goal to prepare them for careers in the social sector.

Are BA and BSW the same?

You could hear social work programs referred to as a Bachelor of Social Social Work (BSW) or a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW). The general education requirements and school structure are the only factors that account for these variations.

While some institutions construct an independent program, others incorporate social work courses into the science or art curricula. Despite the variations in nomenclature, any approved institution can prepare you to work at the same level.

How many subjects are in BSW in Nepal?

In total, TU provides 9 papers as part of the BSW degree, including required fieldwork, research, academic writing, and report writing courses in different years.

How long does it take to complete BSW?

Most TU-affiliated colleges have a BSW program of four academic years, including KMC. A few do have three years degrees as well.

 

 

Who can study BSW?

Students with a score not less than D+ in each of the subjects in grades 11 and 12 are eligible to study BSW. Or, those who graduated from TU or the other institution TU has recognized with a minimum GPA of 45% in Intermediate, PCL, etc., can also study the program. The BSW course is open to students of either science, management, humanities, or even hotel management streams.

 

How much does it cost to study BSW in Nepal?

Roughly it takes 4 to 6 lakhs to study BSW in Nepal. The cost varies from college to college.

 

Can we do an MBA after BSW in Nepal?

Any graduate can pursue an MBA in any field, including BSW graduates. 

 

Is BSW a good course in Nepal?

BSW certainly is a good course in Nepal. Nepal is a developing country; many indices, including poverty rate, mental health-related mortality, morbidity, adolescent issues, social crimes, rural infrastructure, and health, require immediate attention. BSW has a good scope in Nepal, considering all the needed humanitarian responses.

BSW has a profound name in the global market as well.

Will I have to complete an internship?

You must intern at any NGO, INGO, government authority, or other agency as part of the BSW program, where you will work directly with clients.
